TBS has announced The Joe Schmo Show release date for its upcoming reality hoax comedy series, which centers around one person who’s led to believe that they are contestants on a competition show. This serves as a revival of Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese’s original show of the same name, which ran on air for three seasons.
“The modern revival of The Joe Schmo Show is the perfect complement to TBS’ best-in-class comedy lineup,” Turner Networks president Jason Sarlanis said in a statement. “Filled with heart and hilarious reality game show hi-jinks, the series will completely immerse our audiences in the ruse, taking them on a wild ride and keeping them rooting for our protagonist week to week.”

When is The Joe Schmo Show release date?
The Joe Schmo Show is scheduled to make its debut on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 9:00PM ET/PT. The revival is hosted by Emmy nominee Cat Deeley (So You Think You Can Dance). The 10-episode series is executive produced by showrunner Dave Kneebone, with Reese and Wernick also serving as producers on the project. It hails from MTV Entertainment Studios and Fly On The Wall Entertainment.
“The show-within-a show takes aim at the absurdity of reality TV by making Ben, an electrician from Baltimore, believe he is competing for a chance to win $100,000 on a popular game show when he is, in fact, surrounded by a cast of highly skilled improv comedians,” reads the initial logline.
Each episode provides a groundbreaking, behind-the-scenes look as the actors and entire working crew scramble to keep Ben from discovering the hoax, something made more difficult by the increasingly over-the-top format of the show. As the show progresses, the stakes for each challenge will grow higher as production is forced to pivot storylines, and castmates, who Ben sees as competition.
