The renowned drinkware company Stanley has decided to recall more than 2 million units of one of its travel mugs line from the market. Following the recall, Stanley also issued the advisory that customers who possess the popular travel mug should immediately refrain from using it due to a defect that they have discovered. Here is the reason behind the recall of the travel mugs by Stanley and what is the defect in them.
Here’s why Stanley recalled 2 million travel mugs
Stanley recently surprised its customers after recalling a total of 2.6 million Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs from the market. This decision affects travel mugs that are present in the United States currently.
The decision to recall was shared by the Consumer Product Safety Commission on their website. In the press release, Stanley mentioned the defect that the travel mugs had under hazard, which read, “These mug’s lid threads can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lid to detach during use, posing a burn hazard.”
The recall was carried out on December 12, 2024.
The description of the mug in the press release stated that “The recalled double-walled mugs were sold in a variety of colors including white, black and green, in 12 oz., 16 oz., and 20 oz. sizes with a polypropylene lid.” Additionally, the drinkware company provided product identification numbers of the travel mugs that are being recalled.
Stanley instructed the customers to apply for the replacement of the lid of their travel mugs and immediately stop using them until the lid was changed. The press release also detailed the injuries that were reported due to the lid. As per Stanley, a total of 16 customers in the United States faced issues of the lid detaching while 2 have reported burn injuries. Furthermore, Stanley has received “91 reports worldwide, resulting in 38 burn injuries worldwide, with 11 consumers worldwide requiring medical attention.”
