The Friday Night Lights reboot has landed at Peacock.
It was announced last month that Universal Television was developing a reboot of Friday Night Lights, the acclaimed series starring Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton.
Now, per Deadline, the series has officially landed at Peacock. A premiere date has not yet been set.
What is the logline for the new Friday Night Lights reboot?
“Following a devastating hurricane, a rag tag high school football team and their damaged, interim coach make an unlikely bid for a Texas High School State Championship becoming a beacon of light for their town,” the description reads, per Variety.
Jason Katims, who served as the showrunner on the original Friday Night Lights series, is returning to lead the new reboot. Peter Berg and Brian Grazer are also returning, while Kristen Zolner will serve as an executive producer for Imagine Entertainment.
No casting information has been announced for the new series at this time.
Friday Night Lights was inspired by the 1990 novel, Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream, written by H. G. Bissinger. It was turned into a short-lived television series in 1993 before it was then adapted into a feature film in 2004. Directed by Berg, the movie starred Billy Bob Thorton, Britton, Jay Hernandez, Tim McGraw, and more.
The Friday Night Lights television series then premiered in October 2006 on NBC. After the show was almost canceled due to low ratings following the second season, it began premiering on DirecTV’s 101 Network while NBC would rebroadcast episodes at a later date. In total, Friday Night Lights ran for five seasons.
Chandler won the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Primetime Emmy Award for his performance in the show in 2011, while Katims won Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series the same year.
