A new Star Trek: Section 31 trailer is out today, previewing the upcoming spin-off film of Star Trek: Discovery starring Michelle Yeoh.
What happens in the Star Trek: Section 31 trailer?
The new trailer highlights Yeoh reprising her role of Emperor Philippa Georgiou, who joins up with a secret division of Starfleet to try and protect the United Federation of Planets. Star Trek: Section 31 premieres on January 24, 2025, and will stream exclusively on Paramount+.

Star Trek: Section 31 is being directed and executive-produced by Olatunde Osunsanmi from a screenplay written by Craig Sweeny. Alongside Yeoh, the movie also stars Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez, and James Hiroyuki Liao.
The film is intended to be the first television film in the Star Trek franchise and is part of Alex Kurtzman’s expanded Star Trek universe, which also includes series like Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and Lower Decks, among others.
“In this new original movie, Academy Award® winner Michelle Yeoh reprises her Star Trek: Discovery role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, who joins a secret division of Starfleet. Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, she also must face the sins of her past,” reads the film’s official synopsis.
