WWE SmackDown superstars were recently called out by none other than Judgment Day member JD McDonagh. McDonagh, who is one half of the WWE World Tag Team Champions, shifted his attention to the blue brand’s tag team division.
The upcoming edition of WWE RAW will feature the highly anticipated World Tag Team titles match. The champions Finn Balor and JD McDonagh will defend their titles against The War Raiders.
Balor and McDonagh captured the World Tag Team Titles on June 24, defeating The Awesome Truth, consisting of The Miz and R-Truth. Liv Morgan played a key role in helping them win the titles. Since their victory, Balor and McDonagh have only defended the titles. In September they retained their title against The New Day on an episode of WWE RAW.
Balor and McDonagh have held the World Tag Team titles for 168 days, but fans have often criticized them for defending the titles just once. JD McDonagh has now aimed a shot at WWE SmackDown’s tag team division.
JD McDonagh makes strong comments about WWE SmackDown’s tag team division
The WWE Tag Team titles were split at WrestleMania 40, with RAW and SmackDown each having their separate tag team titles. RAW received the World Tag Team titles, while SmackDown got the Tag Team titles.
Since then, two teams have held the World Tag Team Titles on RAW: The Awesome Truth and the current champions, The Judgment Day. On SmackDown, four teams have held the WWE Tag Team Titles. The teams are A-Town Down Under, The Bloodline, The Motor City Machine Guns, and DIY. The current champions of the blue brand are DIY, consisting of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa.
Ahead of their upcoming title defense, JD McDonagh used Twitter to criticize SmackDown’s tag team division. He highlighted that four teams have held the WWE Tag Team Titles since he and Finn Balor won titles. McDonagh also called their reign a “generational run.”
Now that The Judgment Day is set to defend their World Tag Team Titles for the second time, it will be interesting to see whether they can successfully retain their titles.
