Fans have been speculating that Colman Domingo might play Kang the Conqueror, the villain role that Jonathan Majors previously played in the MCU. The speculation gained traction after Domingo hinted at discussions with Marvel Studios about joining the franchise. So, will Domingo go on to portray the previously chosen villain in the MCU in the future?
Here are the details.
Will Colman Domingo play Kang in the MCU?
The possibility of Colman Domingo joining the MCU as Kang remains uncertain, as his role in the franchise has not yet been confirmed.
Last year, Marvel Studios fired Majors, following his conviction for misdemeanor assault. Introduced in 2021, he initially portrayed He Who Remains in Loki Season 1 and later took on Kang in Season 2 and Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania. Since Majors’ firing, fans have wondered who would take on the role, with many believing that Domingo could be the new face of Kang.
The rumors surfaced again when Domingo recently spoke with ScreenGeek, revealing he was in talks with Marvel. He opened up about having a meeting with the studios with no agenda and how he was asked about his preference for portraying any MCU character. However, he replied, “I don’t know. What do you got for me?”
He remained excited about becoming a part of the MCU and hopes to get a role that is specifically for him. “And something that is created for me and something where I feel like I can give something of myself to. So we’ll find out what that is. I don’t know what it is yet, but I’m patient.”
However, it’s unlikely that he would step into Kang the Conqueror’s role. The next main villain to appear in the MCU will be Doctor Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. Though Jonathan Majors’ Kang had been set up as a major threat to the Avengers, his presence in the MCU is likely to be overshadowed by Doctor Doom’s arrival. So, there are fewer chances of Domingo receiving this role, which could merely be a cameo if it ever happens.
