The Baltimore Ravens recently made headlines with their decision to suspend wide receiver Diontae Johnson. While the announcement has sparked widespread speculation, the team has remained tight-lipped about the exact reasons behind their move. Fans are now concerned about Johnson’s future in the team.
Here’s why Johnson was suspended.
Here’s why Diontae Johnson was suspended
The Baltimore Ravens have suspended wide receiver Diontae Johnson for one game without pay due to “conduct detrimental to the team.”
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the suspension follows Johnson’s refusal to enter the Week 13 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, despite being active on the roster. (via Essentially Sports)
Ravens EVP and GM Eric DeCosta addressed the suspension, stating it stemmed directly from Johnson’s refusal to play. This decision was viewed as unacceptable by the organization. Adam Schefter reported that Johnson’s suspension will take effect after Baltimore’s current bye week, meaning he will miss the upcoming game against the New York Giants.
Johnson’s stint in Baltimore has been underwhelming, especially compared to his earlier performance with the Panthers. Despite his early-season success, his transition to the Ravens has been far from seamless. This incident adds to further problems for Johnson since joining the team.
The suspension raises questions about Johnson’s future with the team. Head coach John Harbaugh remained vague when asked about the situation. At the press conference, he said, “At this time, I’m going to have to wait just to clarify it. There’s some moving parts there that we’re going to have to figure out and explore and just see where we’re at.”
Harbaugh further added, “I know that’s not the answer you want, but that’s the best I can do in fairness to everybody right now. We’ll just work it out [and] see where we’re at over the next few days this week.”
