Anya Taylor-Joy is set to headline Lucky, an upcoming crime series at Apple TV+. Lucky is based on the New York Times bestseller by Marissa Stapley. The book was also selected for Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club.
Lucky marks Taylor-Joy’s second high-profile project with Apple. Taylor-Joy is one of the stars of The Gorge, Scott Derrickson’s sci-fi action movie for Apple Original Films. The Gorge premieres on Apple TV+ in 2025.
Lucky is Taylor-Joy’s first major television role since the Emmy Award-winning The Queen’s Gambit. Taylor-Joy was nominated for an Emmy and won the SAG, Golden Globe, and Critics’ Choice for her performance as Beth Harmon. Taylor-Joy’s recent credits include Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Dune: Part Two, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and The Menu.
What is Lucky with Anya Taylor-Joy about?
Per Apple’s press release, “Taylor-Joy stars as a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.”
Jonathan Tropper is the series creator and executive producer. Tropper will co-showrun with Cassie Pappas. Tropper also created Your Friends and Neighbors, the upcoming Apple TV+ series debuting in April 2025. Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter will produce under their Hello Sunshine banner, while Taylor-Joy will executive produce through her company, LadyKiller.
“It is incredibly rewarding to be able to amplify these female-centric stories and their authors, see our community connect with them, then see them take on a whole new life on screen,” Witherspoon said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Apple TV+ and the incomparable Anya Taylor-Joy, plus our brilliant creator Jonathan Tropper and his wonderful co-showrunner Cassie Pappas, to bring this compelling series — based on Marissa Stapley’s fantastic novel — to audiences around the world.”
“Hello Sunshine continues to do a fantastic job of championing women’s voices and I’m thrilled to be joining the team alongside Jonathan, Cassie, and Apple TV+ to bring Lucky to life,” said Taylor-Joy.
