Renowned actress Barbie Ferreira is once again dominating headlines, intriguing her fans about her potential return as Kat in Euphoria Season 3. The character was last seen struggling with an identity crisis in the second season, which ultimately ended on a cliffhanger. However, Ferreira soon informed the avid admirers of the HBO series that she would not be coming back for the show’s third chapter, much to their dismay. So, what is the reason behind Ferreira’s Kat leaving Euphoria Season 3?
Here’s everything you need to know about Barbie Ferreira dropping out of Euphoria.
Why Barbie Ferreira’s Kat will not return in Euphoria Season 3
Barbie Ferreira announced her exit from the show way back in August 2022, doing so via an Instagram story. In 2023, she opened up about leaving Euphoria, citing the lack of an effective arc for Kat as the reason.
Barbie Ferreira shed light on Kat’s unexpected exit from Euphoria before Season 3 in an earlier appearance on Dax Shepard’s podcast, Armchair Expert. Ferreira explained, “I think my character, who I love so dearly, I don’t think there was a place for her to go. I think there were places she could have gone, I just don’t think it would have fit into the show.”
The 27-year-old actress also highlighted her opinion about the much-discussed body type of her character. She said, “I wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either.” Ferreira then revealed her belief about showrunner Sam Levinson’s take on Kat, stating that he could not relate to the character. “Sam writes for, like, things that he relates to. I don’t think he relates to Kat. I like Kat, so I get to go on my own path,” she stated.
As such, Euphoria fans will have to make do without Barbie Ferreira’s Kat in Season 3. However, most of the mainstays, including Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and Alexa Demie, among others, will be returning for the third outing.
