There are rumors among fans that Alisha Weir will portray Dorothy in the upcoming sequel Wicked: Part 2. Although the iconic The Wizard of Oz character appearance remains rumored, many have already made their speculations for the role. The director’s most recent remarks and Weir’s presence on Wicked‘s red carpet have fueled the pre-existing rumors even more.
So, here’s a detailed article on why fans believe Weir is playing Dorothy.
Will Alisha Weir play Dorothy in Wicked: Part 2?
Neither Alisha Weir nor director Jon M. Chu has confirmed her appearance as Dorothy in Wicked: Part 2.
Since the release of Part: 1, there have been speculations that Dorothy may appear in the upcoming sequel. Rumors about Weir portraying the beloved character started circulating when she was spotted on several of Wicked: Part 1’s red carpets. The rumors were further fueled following Chu’s latest comments on The Wizard of Oz character.
Recently, the director sat down with Variety, addressing the possibility of Dorothy playing a major part in the next act. He didn’t give away too much about the movie but mentioned that “in the show, Dorothy is around.” He added that the stories have to “intersect” for her appearance. “I won’t say whether she’s a character, necessarily, in movie two.”
Chu didn’t reveal who would play the part. However, he hoped fans get their wishes fulfilled about the Dorothy they want to see. “There’s a part of me that wants everyone’s Dorothy to be the whatever Dorothy they want. And yet, there is interaction and some crossover. So I’ll leave that up to ‘Part Two.'”
Weir is a talented rising star, famously known for playing Matilda Wormwood in Matthew Warchus‘ Matilda the Musical and the titular character in Abigail. She also has some stage work under her belt, which includes The Wizard of Oz and Oliver.
