Elton John shared he has lost sight in right eye

Elton John has revealed that he is dealing with significant loss of eyesight following a severe eye infection.

Speaking at the gala night for The Devil Wears Prada musical in London on December 1, 2024, John expressed gratitude to his husband, David Furnish, saying, “He has been my rock” (via CNN). Despite his condition, he commended the musical’s production, adding, “I love to hear it, and, boy, it sounded good tonight.”

In a recent interview with Good Morning America, the “Rocket Man” singer provided more details, explaining that he lost vision in his right eye due to an infection he contracted in July while in the South of France. He stated, “It’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye is not the greatest.” While acknowledging progress, he shared concerns about how the condition affects his ability to work, noting, “I can’t see a lyric for a start.”

John, 77, first disclosed the issue on Instagram in September, describing it as a “severe eye infection” that resulted in limited vision. He wrote, “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process… I’m feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.” He also thanked his medical team and family for their support.

Although Elton John officially retired from live touring in 2023, he remains active in music, having composed the score for The Devil Wears Prada. The musical, based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel and its subsequent film adaptation, debuted in London earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the “I’m Still Standing” hitmaker continues to recover while balancing his health and professional commitments. With hope and medical support, John remains optimistic about regaining his vision and maintaining his creative pursuits.
