Arcane Season 2 Exec Explains Why Its Budget Was $250 Million

The executive music producer of the Netflix animated series Arcane recently revealed why Season 2 had such a huge budget.

Arcane Season 2 dropped on streaming platform Netflix on November 9, 2024, and comprised three acts. Based on the popular multiplayer battle area game, League of Legends, the story of Arcane won over fans and critics, receiving a rating of 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Arcane Season 2 had a $250 million budget because Riot Games produced it

Since Arcane Season 2’s release, its budget has been a topic of discussion among fans. Made with a budget of $250 million, making it the most expensive animated show in history, Arcane garnered immense praise for its visual style, characters, and story.

While talking to Screen Rant in a recent interview, Arcane Season 2 executive music producer, Alex Seaver disclosed the reason behind the budget. Seaver asserted that Arcane Season 2 went with a large budget so that the series came out exactly as Riot Games envisioned it to be.

He told the outlet, “The show is made by Riot Games, which is, I think, one of the reasons it took a long time to make. There’s all these articles about how expensive it was, it is because we are not a film and television studio, we’re a game company. But I think it’s also the reason that in some respects this broke a video game adaptation curse, or whatever people say, is because these people care the most about the game. They made it.”

The second season of Arcane concluded with its Act 3 which was released on Netflix on November 23, 2024. Although the series has ended, the creators of the show have hinted at spin-offs already being in the works at Riot Games.
