A Mighty Mouse movie is in the works.
Created by Paul Terry and Izzy Klein for Terrytoons, who in turn made him for 20th Century Fox, Mighty Mouse is an anthropomorphic superhero who made his official debut in 1942’s The Mouse of Tomorrow. The character has since appeared in a number of shorts, cartoons, and more.
Per Variety, Paramount Animation is now moving forward on a Mighty Mouse feature film. Ryan Reynolds’ production company Maximum Effort Productions has been tapped to produce the film.
What else do we know about Paramount’s new Mighty Mouse movie?
Matt Lieberman has been tapped to write the screenplay for the movie. Liberman previously co-penned the script for 2021’s Free Guy, which starred Reynolds and was directed by Shawn Levy. He was also involved with writing 2018’s The Christmas Chronicles, 2019’s The Addams Family, 2019’s Playing with Fire, 2020’s Scoob!, 2020’s The Christmas Chronicles 2, and 2021’s Rumble.
Brad Butler will oversee the project for Paramount Animation. No casting information is available at this time and a director has not yet been announced.
“Maximum Effort has several projects in development with Paramount including Boy Band, a comedy about a music group’s reunion; Starter Villain, an adaptation of the bestselling science-fiction novel by John Scalzi; and Eloise, a big-screen version of the beloved family book series,” Variety’s article notes. “In February, Maximum Effort announced it was renewing its deal with Paramount through 2026.”
Reynolds was recently seen reprising his role as Wade Wilson in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine, which is now available to stream on Disney+. He also portrayed Cal in John Krasinski’s IF earlier this year and will soon be seen playing a character in the live-action/animation hybrid movie Animal Friends, which will be released in August 2025.
The Mighty Mouse movie does not yet have a release date.
