Golden Globe winner Idris Elba is now in final talks to join the live-action Masters of the Universe movie cast for Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films’s highly-anticipated action fantasy remake. Elba will be playing the role of Duncan, who, in the original series, is also known as weapons master, Man-At-Arms.
Elba recently reprised his role as Knuckles in the eponymous Paramount spin-off series. He will once again lend his voice to the character in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Besides Masters of the Universe, the acclaimed actor also has several projects lined up at the moment, including the action comedy Heads of State with John Cena, the action thriller Hammer Down from Oppenheimer producer Charles Roven, the survival thriller Above the Below, and the adult-animated comedy Fixed with Kathryn Hahn.
Who is in the live-action Masters of the Universe cast?
Masters of the Universe cast will be led by Nicholas Galitzine (Bottoms) as He-Man, Camila Mendes (Riverdale) as Teela, and Alison Brie (Community) as Evil-Lyn. The film is directed by Travis Knight from a screenplay written by Chris Butler, which is based on the initial draft by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee. Further details about the live-action remake’s plot and characters are still under wraps. It is a production by Escape Artists and Mattel Films, with Robbie Brenner, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch as producers.
“The film will follow 10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia,” reads the synopsis. “After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”
Masters of the Universe will arrive in theaters on June 5, 2026.
