Yes, Chad Duell Is Leaving General Hospital: Exit Explained

Chad Duell has portrayed Michael Corinthos in the ABC soap opera General Hospital since 2010 and is one of the several actors to essay the role. In a new social media post, Duell disclosed his future on the popular show, leaving the fans to speculate whether he is making his departure as Michael Corinthos.

Is Chad Duell’s Michael Corinthos leaving General Hospital?

Yes, Chad Duell’s Michael Corinthos is leaving General Hospital. The actor recently took to Instagram to break the news to the fans.

“After many incredible years with General Hospital, I’ve decided to step away from the show,” Duell wrote in the caption of a photo of him with other cast members. “This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but it feels like the right time in my life. I’m beyond grateful to Frank Valentini, the cast, crew, and everyone behind the scenes who have been like family to me throughout this amazing journey.”

Duell continued, “To all the fans: thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unwavering support and for letting Michael Corinthos be a part of your lives. Your love and encouragement has meant the world to me. This isn’t a goodbye—it’s a see you later. Much love, Chad.”

Twin actors Dylan and Blake Hopkins originally portrayed Michael Corinthos as a child in the late ’90s and early 2000s. After that, Tiarnan Cunningham played the character between 2001 and 2002. Dylan Cash took over the role in 2002 and was, in turn, replaced by Drew Garrett in 2009. Duell substituted Garrett in 2010. Further, Robert Adamson played the role in a few episodes when Duell wasn’t available.

Could Michael Corinthos return to General Hospital?

It’s unclear whether Michael Corinthos will return to the series after Duell’s exit and continue to be part of the overall narrative of General Hospital. A potential recasting down the line can’t be ruled given the character’s history. At the same time, considering the end of Duell’s post, his return to the show could also happen.

In a post on X (formerly Twiter), producer Frank Valentini confirmed Duell’s exit. “I have loved working with Chad over the years and wish him nothing but the best,” Valentini added. “He is a terrific actor and will be missed by everyone at #GH.”

In a follow-up post, Valentini stated that there were “no plans to recast his [Duell’s] role at this time, but you never know in daytime.” He also teased a “great” storyline for Michael and his family when Duell would exit the show the following year.
