Based on a True Story has returned with its sophomore season on Peacock, and there is already a promising update from producer Michael Costigan about the prospective Season 3. The series originally premiered on June 8, 2023, and its successful inaugural outing led to its renewal for the second season. Although Season 3 hasn’t been officially confirmed, Costigan’s words will likely let the fans know that the show is far from over.
Michael Costigan says ‘there’s a lot more to do’ in Based on a True Story Season 3
Michael Costigan, whose filmography also includes Robin Hood (2005) and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019), said that “there’s a lot more to do” while addressing the possibility of Based on a True Story Season 3.
“We’ve always thought that this is a returning show because we also make limited series,” Costigan told The Direct. “We enjoy making limited series, which, more often than not, are kind of like a long movie, but our feeling was, at the end of Season 1, I can’t wait to see what they’re going to do next. But Season 2 really came, Annie Weisman, who we loved ‘Physical,’ she and this great group of writers she assembled really wanted to keep taking it further and expanding the scope and the scale of it,” he added.
Costigan noted that they didn’t start developing the first season already knowing what would happen in Season 2. Besides, that had a positive impact when they decided to go forward with the second chapter. He continued, “And we hope that’s what makes Season 2 fun. It isn’t like the culmination of Season 1, it really is surprising in a fun way, we hope. And that’s where with Season 3, which we certainly feel like, if the audience is there with us in Season 2, we really think and hope that they’re going to want to go with us again. Yeah, because there’s a lot more to do.”
Meanwhile, all eight episodes of Based on a True Story Season 2 are now available on Peacock.
