Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant, and Juliette Lewis are all set to star in the upcoming thriller The Trip, which will be directed by The Lonely Island member Jorma Taccone.
The movie will also star Paul Guilfoyle and former UFC fighter Keith Jardine and will be financed and produced by XYZ. Other producers on the project include Kelly McCormick, Lee Kim, and Guy Danella, with Taccone, Tommy Wirkola, and Karen Gillan co-executive producing the project. Production on the film is already underway, with filming taking place in Finland.
What is The Trip about?
The Trip is an adaptation of the 2021 Norwegian action horror comedy I Onde Dager and centers around a dysfunctional couple (Segel and Weaving) who look to reconnect at a remote cabin, but each actually has their own secret plans to kill the other.
Prior to his directorial work on the film, Taccone also directed the 2016 film Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which starred his fellow SNL and The Lonely Island member Andy Samberg, and also directed the 2010 film MacGruber, which itself was an offshoot of a popular SNL skit.
The project was written by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney and is adapted from Tommy Wirkola’s original film. That film starred Noomi Rapace (The Lamb) and Aksel Hennie (The Martian) in its lead roles. In a statement on the film, Wirkola said he was excited to see what Jorma brought to the movie.
“I can’t wait to see Jorma bring his totally singular sensibility to the material,” said Wirkola. “That, combined with this killer cast, makes me beyond excited that this film will truly stand out in the cinematic landscape.”
“I’m a huge fan of Tommy’s work and I love the original film. I have a totally singular sensibility, and I can’t wait to see what I bring to the material,” Jorma said.
