Christian Pulisic recently jumped on the viral “Trump Dance” trend, joining a growing list of athletes who have used the celebratory move to mark a big moment in their sports. After scoring a brace against Jamaica in a 4-2 victory, Pulisic, the captain of the U.S. Men’s National Team, celebrated with the dance in the 13th minute.

He explained his Donald Trump dance in a post-game interview. “I saw everyone doing it yesterday in the NFL, I saw Jon Jones do it, and we were just having a bit of fun. I thought it was a pretty fun dance,” the soccer star said. “Obviously, that’s the ‘Trump Dance’ but it was just a dance that everyone was doing. He’s the one who created it, and I thought it was funny” (via USA Today).

Pulisic emphasized that he wasn’t trying to make a political statement with his celebration but was simply having fun and joining in on the latest sports trend. “It’s not a political dance. It was just for fun. I saw a bunch of people do it and thought it was funny, so I enjoyed it,” he continued.

The dance has gained significant traction across various sports after being popularized by UFC fighter Jon Jones, who performed it at UFC 309 in Madison Square Garden over the weekend. Jones also handed his championship belt to President-elect Donald Trump, who was in attendance.

NFL stars like Nick Bosa and Brock Bowers also embraced the Trump dance, further fueling the trend. Bowers mentioned that he was inspired by Jones and added the move after scoring a touchdown during a Las Vegas Raiders game.
