Captain America: Brave New World Director Reveals One of MCU Movie’s Biggest Themes

Captain America: Brave New World director Julius Onah says one of the biggest themes of the upcoming MCU movie will be brotherhood.

Captain America: Brave New World, also known as Captain America 4, will be released in United States theaters next February. Directed by Onah, the film will see Anthony Mackie step back into the role of Sam Wilson/Captain America while Danny Ramirez is also returning as Joaquin Torres/Falcon.

What did Julius Onah say about Captain America: Brave New World?

Speaking with Empire Magazine, Onah discussed how the brotherhood between Mackie and Ramirez’s characters will be one of the most important aspects of the Marvel Studios film.

“There’s this incredible big brother/little brother dynamic between them,” he explained. “It’s going to be one of the key emotional centers of the film.”

Onah further noted that both Sam and Joaquin are “incredible fights.” He continued, “And Sam has been there and back. He’s got some tricks up his sleeve, and over the course of the film there are things he comes to learn that become other tools in his arsenal, when he’s facing even the most impossible of threats.”

In addition to Mackie and Ramirez, Captain America 4 will also see Harrison Ford play the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who is also known as Red Hulk. The Ross character was previously played by William Hurt in the MCU; however, Hurt passed away in March 2022.

The cast further includes Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Giancarlo Esposito as Seth Voelker/Sidewinder, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader.

“Anthony Mackie returns as the high-flying hero Sam Wilson, who’s officially taken up the mantle of Captain America,” the synopsis for the film reads. “After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.”

Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World releases in United States theaters on February 14, 2025.
