What Happened to Jayce in Arcane & Why Did He Kill [Spoiler]?

Arcane Season 2 saw Jayce undergo a significant shift in his character. It also saw Viktor face a brutal and tragic fate. Accordingly, fans are wondering what became of Jayce and why he killed Viktor.

Here is Jayce’s fate in Arcane and his reasons for killing Viktor, explored.

What happened to Jayce in Arcane Season 2?

In Arcane Season 2, Jayce was captured by a giant magical anomaly alongside Heimerdinger and Ekko after he had visited Hextech’s failsafe, which was located deep underground.

Jayce had visited the underground after Heimerdinger and Ekko told him that his and Viktor’s meddling with arcane magic created a corrupting presence within Piltover. He, Heimerdinger, and Ekko concluded that the corruption was caused by wild runes reacting angrily to Hextech, a technology he and Viktor had developed.

After he escaped the anomaly, Jayce’s appearance and personality dramatically changed. Viktor tells him he “touched the arcane,” because of which his “mind suffered.” He looked rougher and appeared mentally disturbed. The anomaly also altered his Hextech hammer. He now had a laser-focused goal of eliminating Hextech and anything it had affected. This resulted in him murdering Viktor and his entire community.

It is unknown how exactly Jayce changed. The makers are likely reserving the answer for his change in Arcane Season 2 Act 3.

Why did Jayce kill Viktor in Arcane Season 2?

Jayce killed Viktor in Arcane Season 2 because he was influenced by something that seemed to have tampered with his mind. According to Viktor, that something was a “sophisticated conjuration” or “another will.”

The “sophisticated conjuration” convinced Jayce that Hextech and whomever it affected was deadly. Moreover, Singed had claimed that Viktor was “the apex form of Hextech.” This gave Jayce more incentive to kill Viktor.

Arcane Season 2 Acts 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix. The voice cast includes Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, Kevin Alejandro, Harry Lloyd, and Katie Leung.
