Vladimir Shklyarov passes away at 39, claims report
On November 16, the head of the Mariinsky Theatre press service, Anna Kasatkina informed news outlet Fontanka about Shklyarov’s untimely demise. He reportedly died after falling off the fifth floor of a building.
The representative also mentioned that the acclaimed dancer was set to undergo a spinal surgery slated for November 18. At the time, the dancer was reportedly on painkillers. The preliminary cause of his death is still reportedly said to be an accident. However, an investigation case has been opened to delve deep into the matter.
During his early years, Shklyarov attended the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. In 2003, he completed his training and subsequently joined Mariinsky Ballet. Over the years, his brilliance was recognized by the ballet company, which advanced him to a principal dancer in 2011.
Throughout many years, he solidified his resume, giving outstanding performances in ballet acts including The Prince in Vainonen’s The Nutcracker and Rubies and Diamonds in Jewels. He has also garnered several major ballet accolades.
In the wake of his unfortunate demise, the Mariinsky Theatre company issued a long statement in loving memory of the ballet star. Aside from being a part of Mariinsky, Shklyarov has been a guest principal dancer for Bavarian State Ballet and London’s The Royal Ballet as well.
