When Will Denzel Washington Leave Acting? Retirement Plans Explained

Hollywood legend Denzel Washington addressed his retirement from acting in a recent interview, where he also confirmed his involvement in Black Panther 3. Accordingly, fans are wondering what The Equalizer star said about retiring. They also wish to know all of Washington’s upcoming projects.

What did Denzel Washington say about his retirement from acting?

In an interview with Australia’s Today show, Denzel Washington, while promoting Gladiator II revealed his uncertainty about how many films he will do in the future and that he wants to take on the type of projects he has never done before. He also admitted that his project choices all depend on the filmmaker and he now only wants to work with the “best.”

“I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make,” Washington said. “Probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done,” he added.

This is not the first time Washington addressed being selective about his future projects. He had previously done so in an Empire interview in August. He stressed that he needed to be “inspired by the filmmaker” to sign on to projects.

Recently, Denzel Washington also confirmed his upcoming slate of projects that he would be doing before retiring. Referencing his upcoming 2025 Broadway project with Jake Gyllenhaal, Washington stated, “I played Othello at 22. I am about to play Othello at 70. After that, I’m playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking to Steve McQueen about a film.”

Denzel Washington then confirmed Black Panther 3 — which Marvel is yet to confirm officially — the Othello movie, and King Lear as his final three projects.
