MVP Explains The Hurt Syndicate’s AEW Return: What Went Wrong in WWE?

MVP reformed The Hurt Business in AEW as The Hurt Syndicate following his departure from WWE. This faction consists of former WWE Superstars MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin.

In August, MVP and Bobby Lashley departed WWE when their contracts expired, and Shelton Benjamin was released in 2023. Speculation about the trio reuniting as The Hurt Business in AEW grew as they prepared to debut in Tony Khan’s promotion.

MVP and Shelton Benjamin made their AEW debut at WrestleDream last month. MVP sparked rumors of a new alliance when he handed Swerve Strickland a business card, but Strickland refused the offer.

After a confrontation with Strickland, MVP brought in Bobby Lashley. The latter debuted weeks later on AEW Dynamite Fight Night. The three men then attacked Strickland and Prince Nana, officially forming The Hurt Syndicate in AEW.

Following the attack, Bobby Lashley and Swerve Strickland will face off at AEW Full Gear. Ahead of their matchup, MVP recently explained the reasoning behind reforming The Hurt Business as The Hurt Syndicate in AEW and shared what went wrong with the faction in WWE.

The Hurt Syndicate recently appeared on AEW Close with Renee Paquette, where MVP talked about the reforming of The Hurt Syndicate. He also opened up about how the faction gained organic popularity but ended in WWE too soon.

MVP said, “Unfortunately, it was ended long before anyone was ready for it to end. We felt that we wanted to give our story the proper ending that it deserved. Tony Khan was kind enough to allow us to bring our conglomerate here.”

Lashley revealed that fans consistently asked for a reunion, with many comments on his posts calling for the return of The Hurt Business. While talking about fan support, he stated, “They always wanted to see us get back together because it was something that was real. We hung out together, we work out together…this is the perfect opportunity to do it again.”

The Hurt Business was originally formed in 2020 during the pandemic era, quickly gaining popularity. However, the faction was disbanded in 2021. Despite several reunions in WWE, the group never fully gained the same popularity with the fans. Now, with the members of The Hurt Business making their way to AEW, it will be interesting to see how Tony Khan books the faction moving forward.
