Verizon mass outage causes US Fios customers to lose internet access
Multiple Verizon Fios users living on the US East Coast experienced a mass internet outage in the early morning. According to the website DownDetector by Ookla, reports of the outage spiked between midnight and 2 a.m. Eastern Time.
As per the map of user related problems from DownDetector, the interent outage spanned over an area of 300 miles or 482 km, covering multiple US states and cities on the East Coast from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Richmond, Virginia. As indicated by the red spots in Washington, New York, and Boston, those areas seem to be heavily affected by the outage.
Frustrated netizens took to X (Twitter) to air their grievances. “Me ripping that Verizon fios technician out of his home to go fix my internet so I can say good night to my discord kittens,” one fan tweeted with an accompanying GIF.
Another fan pointed out how whenever a Verizon FIOS outage took place, it always happened at 12 a.m. in the Eastern Time Zone. Verizon responded to this tweet an hour later, saying:
Verizon Support has since responded to various frustrated users who have aired their grievances on X, individually. They offered their support, asking them to DM them so they could better assist them.
The telecommunications company, however, has yet to put out an official statement addressing the problem.
This is not the first major outage Verizon users have experienced. In September and October, multiple Verizon users experienced similar major outages.
According to DownDetector, other network providers like AT&T, Xfinity, and Cox have reportedly experienced outages in addition to Verizon.
