Sabres’ Tage Thompson Out After Suffering Lower-Body Injury

The Buffalo Sabres currently find themselves in a rut, having recently lost their bout vs the Montreal Canadiens. Lindy Ruff’s men entered the clash hoping to extend their three-match winning streak by capitalizing on the Canadiens’ patchy run of form. Nevertheless, the Sabres ended up experiencing a crushing defeat while also losing their leading scorer Tage Thompson to injury. As such, the Sabres’ alternate captain was forced off the court mid-game, concerning fans of his seemingly dire condition. But, what actually happened to the NHL veteran?

Here is everything you need to know about Tage Thompson’s latest ailment.

How did Tage Thompson get injured?

Tage Thompson sustained a lower-body injury during the Buffalo Sabres’ 7-5 loss vs the Montreal Canadiens.

The incident occurred in the second period of the game, forcing Thompson to retreat to the sidelines. Tage Thompson participated in one shift of the period before exiting the match due to his injury. While many expected Thompson to make a late comeback, his wound restricted the seasoned center from re-entering the game.

Prior to his premature, injury-driven departure from the match, Tage Thompson recorded a goal in the first period, taking his tally for the season to 11. As such, Thompson currently sits behind the Montreal Canadiens’ Cole Caufield in this season’s goalscoring charts.

At the time of writing, the exact nature of Tage Thompson’s injury has yet to be determined. The Buffalo Sabres’ coach also refrained from providing an update regarding his star player’s condition in the post-match conference. However, captain Rasmus Dahlin made sure to highlight Tage Thompson’s importance to the team, stating, “He’s a huge piece on our team and we need him out there.”

The injury-ridden Buffalo Sabres now welcome the St. Louis Blues in their next NHL bout, with hopes of overturning their fortunes.
