Squid Game Season 2 is one of the most anticipated shows of the year. Although it won’t be the end of the hit Netflix series, its creator recently revealed why he the show will only go on for one final, third season.
Why is Squid Game ending with Season 3?
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that, while writing for Squid Game Season 2, it came “naturally” to him that the show could go on for a third season that would mark the end. For him, the story he was telling simply reached its endpoint.
“When I was thinking about the idea for the ending of season three, I think it sort of naturally came to me that this was the finale,” Hwang said. “I believed that with that story, I was able to tell everything that I wanted to tell through the story of Squid Game and also in the perspective of Gi-hun as a character, and I thought that we don’t need any further stories from here.”
No official release information is available for Squid Game Season 3 just yet, but the show is expected to release in 2025. Squid Game Season 2 will premiere on December 26, 2024, exclusively on Netflix.
The cast of the new season of Squid Game includes Gong Yoo, Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.
