The Penguin Episode 7 Ending Explained: Does Sofia Kill Oz’s Mother?

Fans are wondering whether Sofia Gigante (Cristin Milioti) kills Oz’s mother, Francis Cobb (Deirdre O’Connell), in The Penguin Episode 7, Top Hat. The episode begins with a flashback sequence depicting the day Oz’s brothers died. It reveals much about Oz (Colin Farrell) as a character. It even hints at what will happen in the inevitable confrontation between him and Sofia.

What happens to Oz’s operation at the end of The Penguin Episode 7?

At the end of The Penguin Episode 7, Sofia sends explosives into the formerly abandoned trolley station where Oz has set up his Bliss operation. She initially makes him believe she is releasing his mother, so Oz lets the car get too close. When he discovers exactly what Sofia has sent for him, he manages to escape the explosion by running into the overflow tunnel where he trapped his brothers, as depicted in the flashback sequence. He survives, but all his subordinates except Vic, who wasn’t there in the first place, perish.

Afterward, Oz regains consciousness and returns to the surface to see the widespread devastation the explosion has caused. One of Sofia’s men approaches Oz and calls him the Penguin. He tells Oz that Sofia wants to see him before knocking him out.

Does Sofia Kill Oz’s mother in The Penguin Episode 7?

No, Sofia doesn’t kill Oz’s mother, though she makes Oz believe that it’s Francis’ corpse that she sent to him as a “present.” He sees red hair in the backseat of the car that Sofia sent and starts to fear the worst. He is briefly relieved when he learns that it’s just a wig. However, he then discovers the timer and the explosives and can only run to save himself.

How could Oz beat Sofia in The Penguin finale?

Once more, the odds are demonstrably high against Oz at the end of episode 7, but he has repeatedly shown that he thrives in these situations. Although his operation is destroyed and he is captured, Vic (Rhenzy Feliz) is out there, likely gathering an army. So, there is still hope.

Sofia has probably kept Francis alive because the older woman is the only aspect of Oz’s life he truly fears losing. This episode heavily implies that Oz killed his brothers because he had been envious of his mother’s affection toward them. He is a monster that perfectly fits the Batman universe. Even though it seems Sofia also belongs to this murky version of Gotham City after committing two mass murders, her actions are still predominantly driven by her desire for revenge. She is no match for the ever-calculating Oswald “Oz” Cobb.
