Uma Thurman & Anthony Hopkins to Lead Rebecca-Inspired The Housekeeper

Richard Eyre has tapped Uma Thurman and Anthony Hopkins to star in the romantic drama movie The Housekeeper, inspired by Daphne du Maurier’s 1938 novel Rebecca.

The Iris and Notes on a Scandal filmmaker will direct the project from a script written by novelist  Rose Tremain, with Julia Taylor-Stanley and Kevin Loader producing. It will be based on Tremain’s short story and upcoming novel.

Who else is in The Housekeeper cast?

Fair Play and Bridgerton actress Phoebe Dynevor will be joining Thurman and Hopkins in The Housekeeper cast, according to Variety. The story will revolve around Thurman’s Danni, a housekeeper at a historic house called Manderville Hall, which is owned by Hopkins’ Lord DeWithers. Danni will soon find herself in a forbidden love affair when she lays her eyes on a young and beautiful novelist Daphne Du Maurier (set to be played by Dynevor).

“Rose Tremain’s story grapples with love, fear, fiction, desire, ambition, death, and legacy — perhaps epic, whilst providing us with the delicacy of most complex, nuanced characters and unexpected shifts in audience sympathy. The cast and I hold in our palm a story as rich and turbulent as the landscape that it inhabits, with Manderville Hall holding secrets and emotional intrigue within its historic walls,” Eyre said in a statement (via Variety).

Thurman is known for playing several iconic roles, from the vengeful former assassin in the two Kill Bill features and an elegant wife of a gangster in Pulp Fiction to supervillain Poison Ivy in 1997’s Batman & Robin and Fantine in 1998’s Les Misérables.

Some of Thurman’s best acting credits include Dangerous Liaisons, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Gattaca, Tape, and Hollywood Stargirl.

Hopkins is an award-winning and celebrated actor best known for his starring roles in The Elephant Man, The Silence of the Lambs, The Remains of the Day, Titus, The Two Popes, and The Father, among others.

On the other hand, Dynevor is a rising actress who starred in The Colour Room, Bank of Dave, Prisoners’ Wives, The Village, Snatch, and Younger.
