Prince Charming: Disney Eyes Major MCU Star as Live-Action Lead

Disney’s planned Prince Charming movie may have found its lead, with Deadline reporting that Chris Hemsworth has been in talks to star in the upcoming project.

Reports of Hemsworth’s involvement first surfaced earlier this week in a report from The InSneider, with Deadline now following up and noting that Hemsworth has been in talks with Disney to take on the role of the iconic character.

Paul King — who directed the first two Paddington films and 2023’s Wonka, and who also provided story help on the upcoming Paddington in Peru — will not only serve as director but is also set to co-write the project alongside Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker. As of yet, the cast outside of Hemsworth and the rest of the crew for the upcoming movie is unknown.

What do we know about the Prince Charming movie?

Currently, nothing is known about the Prince Charming movie, although Deadline’s original report on the film notes that the project will not be connected to Cinderella in any way. The specific character Prince Charming is known for his appearance in Cinderella, although the term “prince charming” has come to be used for any number of love interests for various Disney Princesses.

Hemsworth is best known for his role as Thor throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and playing Prince Charming wouldn’t be his first foray into Disney’s pantheon of fairy tale projects. In 2012, Hemsworth appeared in the live-action Snow White and the Huntsman, where he played Eric the Huntsman, a role he reprised in 2016’s The Huntsman: Winter’s War.

This year, Hemsworth starred in two major high-profile films, George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Transformers One, where he voiced the role of Optimus Prime in the hit animated film.
