A new Extraction 3 update has been given out by Joe Russo, with a production start date for the highly anticipated action thriller inching closer.
What is the latest Extraction 3 update?
Speaking to Collider in a new interview, Russo — who wrote the screenplay for both of the first two films — said that work on the third film was continuing, and that they were still coming up with a story for the project. Russo also confirmed that the project will film next year, but didn’t go into much further detail beyond that.
“We’re in the middle of working on that story right now. Hard at work. We’re hoping to go into production on it next year.” Russo said. “It’s definitely filming next year. I’m just being cagey because it’s more fun.”
Earlier this year, Russo also said that director Sam Hargrave would be back to direct the third entry in the franchise. As of now, the team is figuring out star Chris Hemsworth‘s schedule.
“Yeah, we’re developing it at the moment, figuring out Chris’s schedule. Sam Hargrave is back directing,” Russo said. “It’s an interesting franchise because he’s a very emotionally wounded character, so there’s good storytelling there I think in respect to his backstory, and, you know, his relationship to violence is one that’s built around self-loathing and guilt. And so, it adds a lot of texture I think, which allows us to tell more stories about him. “
Extraction 2 was directed by Sam Hargrave from a screenplay written by Russo. The 2023 sequel also starred Golshifteh Farahani, Tornike Gogrichiani, Adam Bessa, Daniel Bernhardt, Tinatin Dalakishvili, and Olga Kurylenko. It was produced by Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo through their AGBO banner alongside Hemsworth.
