Tom Hardy has picked his favorite Spider-Man to face Venom in a potential crossover. Hardy was asked this question at the New York Comic Con while promoting his upcoming film Venom: The Last Dance. There are no official plans for this crossover yet, but Hardy clarified which version of Spider-Man he wants Venom to battle.
Tom Hardy wants Venom to battle Tom Holland’s Spider-Man next
Tom Hardy has expressed his desire to see Venom face off against Spider-Man, specifically Tom Holland’s version of the character.
During a New York Comic Con panel for Venom: The Last Dance, Hardy said, “I would love to fight Spider-Man. I would love to fight him now. I’m happy to fight Spider-Man today, 100 percent.” When asked which Spider-Man he would want Venom to battle, Hardy responded, “Tom Holland, without a shadow of a doubt” (via Comicbook.com).
Hardy’s interest in a crossover stems from Venom’s brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the film, Eddie Brock was temporarily pulled into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite not crossing paths with any of the three Spider-Men (Holland, Tobey Maguire, or Andrew Garfield), Venom’s inclusion hinted at a potential showdown.
Hardy emphasized the importance of the ongoing collaboration between Sony and Marvel Studios for such a crossover, stating, “I would be remiss if I wasn’t trying to steer any kind of connectivity” (via Esquire).
The actor also acknowledged the business complexities behind a potential Spider-Man and Venom crossover, saying, “It would take a much higher level of diplomacy and intelligence, sitting down and talking, to take on an arena such as that.” However, he expressed optimism about the possibility, noting that it would require both studios to be on the same page.
In Venom: The Last Dance, which concludes the Venom trilogy, both Earthly forces and the God of the Symbiotes, Knull, hunt Eddie Brock and Venom. Directed by Kelly Marcel, the film stars Hardy alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, and Rhys Ifans. Venom: The Last Dance releases in theaters on October 25, 2024.
