Why Was Michael Cole Absent from WWE SmackDown?

The latest edition of WWE SmackDown saw veteran commentator Michael Cole missing from the show. He was replaced by WWE RAW commentator Wade Barrett.

On October 18, 2024, WWE SmackDown took place at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina. The show featured top stars like Roman Reigns, LA Knight, and The Usos. Fans got to see DIY defeat The Street Profits & Pretty Deadly to advance into the WWE Tag Team Title number one contender’s tournament. On the other hand, Motor City Machine Guns triumphed over A-Town Down Under & Los Garza to advance.

Motor City Machine Guns have already made an impact on their debut night. They are now set to face DIY on the upcoming edition of WWE SmackDown. Meanwhile, Lash Legend secured a victory over Piper Niven, and Nia Jax teamed up with Candice LeRae to defeat Bayley and Naomi, with LeRae surprisingly pinning Bayley to secure the win. Additionally, WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes extended an invitation to Gunther for next week’s SmackDown.

Despite the action-packed night, fans quickly noticed the absence of Michael Cole, who is known for rarely missing a show. The veteran commentator recently explained the reason for his absence from last week’s edition of WWE SmackDown.

Michael Cole reveals he took a family holiday

WWE commentator Michael Cole recently appeared in an interview with WFAN. There, he revealed that he was heading out on a “ten-day vacation” to Cozumel, Mexico, which explained his absence from SmackDown. However, it is worth noting that the show was recorded on October 12th, before Cole embarked on his vacation.

During the show, Cole also announced that he signed an extension with WWE, ensuring his presence for a long time. He mentioned that he will return to the RAW once the show transitions to Netflix at the beginning of 2025.
