Smile 2 Box Office Outperforms First Movie on Thursday, Strong Opening Weekend Projected

Smile 2 continues to grin from ear to ear as it officially surpasses the first movie’s record at the box office.

Similar to its predecessor, Smile 2 debuted to favorable reviews. As of this writing, the horror feature boasts an 85% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes — considerably higher than the first film. The first movie and the sequel are both written and directed by Parker Finn

What were the totals for the Smile 2 box office previews?

Apart from its impressive early reactions from critics, the horror sequel also made $2.5 million in Thursday previews at the box office. The original movie, which debuted in theaters back in 2022, garnered $2 million in previews during its first weekend. It is now anticipated to make $20 million to $25 million in its opening weekend against its $28 million budget, with a probability to earn much higher.

Smile 2, rated R for “strong bloody violent content,” stayed fairly true to its promise. Like the 2022 film, Smile 2 follows the protagonist being haunted by a demonic entity hiding behind the creepy grins.

“About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events,” the synopsis reads. “Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.”

The film stars Naomi Scott as Skye Riley, Rosemarie DeWitt as Elizabeth Riley, Ray Nicholson as Paul Hudson, Lukas Gage as Lewis Fregoli, Miles Gutierrez-Riley as Joshua, Dylan Gelula as Gemma, Raúl Castillo as Darius Bravo, and Peter Jacobson as Morris. Kyle Gallner also returned to reprise his role of Joel.

It is produced by Finn, Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Isaac Klausner, and Robert Salerno.

Smile 2 is now in theaters.
