What did Liam Payne’s family say about his death?

“We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul,” reads the family’s statement. “We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”

Payne died on Wednesday night in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after falling from a hotel balcony, according to local police. It’s unclear exactly what happened, but the Buenos Aires Security Ministry told the Associated Press that Payne “had jumped from the balcony” and that police had also received calls and were responding to reports of an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

Payne was best known as a member of One Direction, which went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands of all time. Following their hiatus in 2016, Payne would go on to start his own successful solo career, selling over 18 million singles, 2.4 million albums, and more than 3 billion streams across all of his solo music.
