Wanda Dench ‘Thanksgiving Grandma’ Confirms Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Wanda Dench, also known as the Thanksgiving Grandma and widely recognized for her 2016 viral moment, recently revealed a shocking health diagnosis. She is also a close friend of Jamal Hinton, whom she invited accidentally to her Thanksgiving dinner and ended up forming a bond with him. However, her recent breast cancer diagnosis has made everyone concerned about her health. Here’s what Dench said about her health.

What happened to Wanda Dench, the ‘Thanksgiving Grandma’?

Dench took to social media to reveal that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer on October 16.

She addressed the situation with positivity, saying, “I’m 67 now, and I still have a life to live, and I – hopefully, fortunately, cross my fingers – [hope] everything works out well. I hope you know, to have a longer life.”

She revealed about facing respiratory issues with bronchitis earlier. While doctors tested her for pneumonia first, they uncovered a more serious condition. She tested negative for pneumonia but there was a mass in her breast. Dench immediately had her mammogram done and learned that she had Stage 1 breast cancer.

She recalled her 65th birthday when she believed that there wouldn’t be any need for mammograms as her family doesn’t have a history of breast cancer. However, to her surprise, she was diagnosed with it.

Notably, Dench and Hinton surprisingly rose to fame after an unexpected incident, when Dench accidentally sent a Thanksgiving dinner invitation text to Hinton in 2016. According to Dench, she was messaging her grandson, however, she wasn’t aware that his number had changed and had been assigned to Hinton.

After receiving the text, Hinton was skeptical yet he accepted the invite. He posted these conversations on social media, garnering massive attention to his uniquely formed bond with Dench. From there on, the duo became close friends and reportedly continued to invite each other for holiday celebrations.
