A few weeks ago on WWE RAW, World Heavyweight Champion Gunther mocked Bret Hart in reference to Goldberg. The show was held in Bret Hart’s hometown, Calgary in Alberta. The audience gave Hart a huge ovation, and he expressed his emotions about being back in Calgary. However, reigning World Heavyweight Champion Gunther interrupted him by confronting Hart in the ring and showing disrespect to the two-time Hall of Famer.
Although Gunther began by expressing his admiration for Hart, claiming he was about to pour his heart out to one of his childhood heroes, he then declared that Hart would only be his second favorite wrestler. The Ring General went on to mention his all-time favorite, Bill Goldberg, which drew a huge reaction from the fans.
The crowd reacted with shock at the mention of Goldberg, considering the well-known history between him and Hart. Despite their controversial relationship with Goldberg, Hart recently shared his thoughts on Gunther’s provocative comments.
Bret Hart’s reaction to Gunther’s comments about Goldberg
WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart recently appeared on “The Wrestling Classic” podcast. He discussed his experience of being invited to the show just a few days prior. Hart expressed that he was pleasantly surprised by the warm reception from the fans.
He stated that he only came to know of his appearance on the show only a few days ago. Hart recalled, “They called and asked me if I wanted to go down, and I was like, ‘What else am I doing?'” He called the moment “really special” because he did not expect to draw such a reaction from the fans.
“Of course it’s been a long time since I was walked out in front of a Calgary crowd,” he further shared. Regarding Gunther’s comment about Hart being his second favorite wrestler after Bill Goldberg, Hart remarked that he felt Goldberg got off easy in comparison. Hart stated, “I think Bill got off light.”
Gunther originally called Goldberg his favorite wrestler. However, at WWE Bad Blood 2024, he met Goldberg in person and admitted he had lied about that. Their exchange turned into a confrontation between the two stars. Fans are now excited because this encounter could lead to a future match between Gunther and Goldberg.
