Monster Season 3 cast adds actors for Alfred Hitchcock and Ed Gein’s mother

Following the success of the first two parts, Netflix’s Monster series is now going to focus on the story of notorious convicted serial killer, Ed Gein.

As per Variety, with new cast members joining in, work on Monster Season 3 is set to commence soon. According to the outlet, Laurie Metcalf has joined the show in the role of Augusta Wilhelmine Gein, Ed Gein’s mother. Additionally, Netflix has bagged talents like Tom Hollander, who is going to portray Alfred Hitchcock. Meanwhile, The Sixth Sense star Olivia Williams is taking on the role of Hitchcock’s wife, Alma Reville.

Ed Gein was convicted for two murders he committed in the 1950s. He was also held responsible for desecrating graves and making grotesque keepsakes from the corpses. In the Netflix series, Charlie Hunnam is portraying the role of Gein.

Previously, director Ryan Murphy talked to Collider about choosing Ed Gein as the subject of Monster Season 3. He said, “After we did Menendez, Ian (Brennan) and I were talking about it, and we were interested in this idea of, ‘Where did our cultural interest in serial killers begin? Where and how did this all start?’”

Murphy continued, “Based on our research, the very first one who became a celebrity at that level was Ed, who was an instant crazy celebrity from the moment he was arrested. Nobody had ever heard of anything like that. Then we found out — he was motivated, obviously — but he was schizophrenic. How he became what he became was a very interesting story.”
