Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker has had an interesting start to his career in the biggest wrestling promotion in the world. Breakker signed a developmental contract with WWE back in 2021. Following this, he quickly made his debut on WWE NXT the same year by defeating LA Knight in his first matchup.
After having an impressive run in NXT, Breakker made his main roster debut earlier this year. Since his arrival, WWE has portayed him as a dominating star who destroys his opponents. Establishing himself as a fierce competitor, he set his sights on the Intercontinental Championship.
At WWE SummerSlam, he defeated Sami Zayn to capture his first singles title on the main roster. While he recently lost the title to Jey Uso following a short reign, he still has a bright future ahead of him in the promotion. Moreover, WWE Hall of Famer Booker T shared his thoughts on how WWE’s booking for Breakker from the start has helped him carve his own image without relying on his family name.
Booker T says Bron Breakker thrives without his famous name
WWE Hall of Famer Booker T recently appeared on The Undertaker’s podcast, “Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway.” During the episode, he discussed how WWE’s decision to not use the Steiner name has benefited Bron Breakker. Booker T noted that this decision relieved a lot of pressure from Breakker.
He said how much of the “pressure was taken off” of Breakker as he chose to not use “the Steiner name.” Booker T further opined that people may see it as “negative,” but he believes “it was actually something that was pretty cool because it didn’t give him any advantages.” Moreover, he feels Breakker will “have to get there on his talent and his talent alone and he’s proven that he’s talent.”
Breakker, who is the son of legendary wrestler Rick Steiner and nephew of Scott Steiner, is certainly making a name for himself in WWE. Unlike many next-generation stars who rely on their family names. WWE’s choice to not use Breakker’s family name has empowered him to create his own identity, allowing him to step out of the shadows of his father and uncle.
Next week on WWE RAW, he is set to have his rematch for the Intercontinental Championship against Jey Uso. It will be exciting to see if Breakker is able to capture the title once again.
