The Conjuring: Last Rites Begins Filming, James Wan Shares First Photo

The Conjuring: Last Rites has officially begun filming. With the fourth and final Conjuring film in production, series creator James Wan posted a photo of chairs for Ed and Lorraine Warren on his Instagram to commemorate the occasion.

“Always good to see and hang out with old friends. Gonna miss everyone. End of an era,” Wan wrote in the caption.

Who is Involved in The Conjuring: Last Rites?

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their roles as paranormal investigators and authors Ed and Lorraine Warren. Ben Hardy and Mia Tomlinson have been cast in undisclosed roles.

Michael Chaves, who helmed The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, will direct The Conjuring: Last Rites. Chaves directed two additional films set within the Conjuring universe: The Curse of La Llorona and The Nun II.

David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the scribe on the last two Conjuring films, wrote the screenplay with Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing. Johnson-McGoldrick and James Wan conceived the story for Last Rites. Wan and Peter Safran will produce. Plot details remain under wraps. However, The Conjuring films are based on real-life cases investigated by the Warrens.

Last Rites is the fourth Conjuring film behind The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. The franchise has spawned several spin-offs, including Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, and The Nun II. The Conjuring franchise has been a box office success thanks to a combined gross of over $2.2 billion.

In April 2023, a Conjuring TV series was announced at Max. The TV show would continue exploring the supernatural stories introduced in the films.

The Conjuring: Last Rites is scheduled to be released in theaters on September 5, 2025.
