2019’s Ready or Not surprised the audiences with its unique approach to the horror-comedy genre, which reflected in its box-office performance. The movie concluded its theatrical run with a worldwide collection of $57.6 million, on a measly $6 million budget. Having also garnered favorable critical reviews, many were waiting for Searchlight to quickly greenlight a sequel. The fans’ prayers seem to have been answered as Ready or Not 2 has now commenced its development phase.
Ready or Not 2 officially announced with Samara Weaving and directors returning
The much-awaited horror sequel Ready or Not 2 was confirmed during an official screening of the original film.
The update regarding Ready or Not 2 was announced by Radio Silence, a filmmaking collective comprising directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, as reported by Deadline. The duo famously helmed the 2019 classic, which currently boasts an impressive critical score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Ready or Not 2 will also see Samara Weaving reprise her role as Grace, with Radio Silence returning. Weaving was at the center of the last flick, portraying the young bride who gets married into a twisted family. After being forced into playing a game on her wedding day, Grace soon uncovers a sadistic side to her in-laws.
Weaving had expressed her desire to return to the franchise in an earlier interview. “I’m all in. I think we’re all in. I don’t know if we’ve had our blood handshake, but pretty much,” the Scream VI star stated. “We’ve done the spit handshake, but we haven’t cut each other’s hands and rubbed our blood together,” she added.
Ready or Not 2 is set to be penned by Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy, who will also serve as executive producers. An official release date has yet to be announced. However, the premiere schedule and principal photography for the Ready or Not sequel are expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
