Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan & More in Final Talks for Guy Ritchie’s The Associate Series Cast

Guy Ritchie’s Paramount+ series The Associate is close to securing Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan to join its cast. Hardy previously collaborated with Ritchie in 2008’s RocknRolla, whereas both Mirren and Brosnan have never appeared in a project helmed by the Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels director.

The negotiations for Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan to be part of the cast of Guy Ritchie’s The Associate have entered the final stage.

The series originally went into development under the title The Donovans and was supposed to serve as the U.K. spin-off to the Showtime series Ray Donovan (2013-2020). However, it has been turned into a standalone series and now has no connection to the Liev Schreiber-led crime-drama show and its 2022 telefilm sequel, Ray Donovan: The Movie. (via Variety)

According to Deadline, The Associate is a working title. Hardy is being reportedly courted to portray a fixer named Harry in a story about a family of gangsters and the man they call when they have a problem. Mirren and Brosnan are purportedly up for the roles of the family’s matriarch and patriarch.

Showtime/MTV Studios and 101 Studios are behind the upcoming series. Ritchie will direct the one-hour-long episodes and share executive producing duties with screenwriter Ronan Bennett and others.

Tom Hardy, whose Venom: The Last Dance debuts in the U.S. theaters on October 25, 2024, has an extensive TV resume, having essayed characters like Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders and James Delaney in BBC’s Taboo. Mirren, who has won multiple Emmys and an Academy Award, currently portrays Cara Dutton in 1923, another Paramount+ series. Meanwhile, former James Bond Pierce Brosnan recently appeared in the HBO TV movie The Great Lillian Hall.
