Gladiator II Video Highlights Paul Mescal Sequel’s Epic Scale & Action

A brand new Gladiator II video for Paramount Pictures‘ highly-anticipated sequel has been released, unveiling a behind-the-scenes look at the main cast led by Oscar nominee Paul Mescal. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 22, 2024.

“The sequel continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome. Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people,” reads the synopsis.

What happens in the Gladiator II video?

The video features the main cast discussing the sequel’s epic scope and scale, with Denzel Washington admitting that this is the biggest movie he has ever been a part of. In addition to the behind-the-scenes footage, the featurette also includes new footage from the film, highlighting next-level action sequences.

Gladiator II is directed by Scott from a screenplay written by David Scarpa. Leading the film is Mescal as Lucius, the son of Lucilla and Emperor Commodus’ nephew. The character was originally portrayed by Spencer Treat Clark in the first installment. The sequel also stars Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, May Calamawy, Lior Raz, and more. They will be joined by returning cast members Connie Nielsen as Lucilla and Derek Jacobi as Gracchus.

The sequel is produced by Scott, Michael Pruss, Douglas Wick, and Lucy Fisher. The film is considered to be a joint-venture production between Paramount, Universal Pictures, Scott Free Productions, and Parkes/MacDonald Productions.
