Berry recently appeared on Dax Shepherd’s Armchair Expert podcast, making startling claims about her ex-husband without specifying his name. She revealed that she had a husband who was a “sex addict.” However, she had a hard time believing that her husband was actually battling sex addiction. Although she didn’t mention her husband’s name, it was clear that she was alluding to Benet. This is because Benet went to rehabilitation in the past after being accused of cheating on Berry.
In an interview with ABC News, Benet had previously denied the claims of being a “sex addict.” Although he admitted to being an unfaithful husband, he didn’t accept the claims of addiction. He said, “I am not a sex addict. I am a person who, through a series of emotional events, troubles, challenges, made some really, really stupid, painful mistakes.”
Berry and Benet’s relationship history dates back to sometime around 1999 when they started seeing each other. After almost two years of dating, they exchanged vows in January 2001. In the following year, Berry became the first black woman to win Best Actress at the Oscars for Monster’s Ball. Benet supported her in this victorious moment, but a few days later, his infidelity allegations surfaced. The allegations turned out to be true when Berry herself discovered that her ex-husband had multiple affairs and was unfaithful. After being married for two years, they eventually separated in 2003.
Addressing their separation in an Entertainment Weekly interview, she said, “Eric and I have had marital problems for some time now and have tried to work things out together. However, at this point, I feel we need time apart to reevaluate our union. We ask that you respect our privacy as we are going through this emotional time.” However, their relationship didn’t work out, leading to their divorce in 2005.
