Oscar winner J.K. Simmons has officially signed on to join the 109 Billion Followers cast for the upcoming comedy-drama movie. Simmons will be leading the project alongside his daughter, Olivia Simmons. This comes after the duo recently starred in the thriller movie You Can’t Run Forever. The Whiplash actor is expected to play a homeless man, who becomes the main subject of a student documentary film directed by Olivia Simmons’ character.
“”It follows a film student who makes a documentary about a homeless man, who is convinced that he’s the Grim Reaper,” reads the synopsis. “Her cameraman and unlikely love interest (Jake Ryan) adds laughs and heart, while her broken but loving mother adds drama and mess.”
Who is in the 109 Billion Followers cast?
In addition to the father-and-daughter duo, 109 Billion Followers will also star Jake Ryan (Asteroid City) and Nina Arianda (Goliath). The latter previously worked with J.K. Simmons in 2021’s Being the Ricardos biopic. Described as a magical realism dramedy, the film hails from writer and director Ela Thier, who is also producing along with Nicholas Tabarrok. Production is expected to begin this November in New York City.
“I wrote this script specifically for father-daughter team, J.K. and Olivia Simmons, because I know that their relationship will light up the screen and steal hearts,” Thier said in a statement. “Our connection with our parents or caregivers can be fraught with pain and complexities, and influence all of our subsequent relationships in life. This film is my love letter to all parents, including my own.”
