What happens in the Before trailer?
The trailer introduces the main characters in the story. Crystal plays Eli, a child psychiatrist who recently lost his wife Lynn (Judith Light). He encounters a troubled young boy named, Noah (Jacobi Jupe). However, Eli’s attempts don’t go according to plan.
The preview begins by highlighting Eli, who has struggled to return to his life following Lynn’s death. The Before trailer takes an increasingly sinister turn from there, as Eli hallucinates conversations with his dead wife. Eli then meets Noah, who hasn’t been able to fit in at a foster home, and becomes focused on a farmhouse that Noah keeps drawing.
It’s soon revealed that Noah suffers from hallucinations as well, in addition to getting expelled from school. Eli becomes convinced that there’s a reason he’s met Noah. But that bond is seemingly tested, with Noah telling Eli: “You know what you did!” However, Eli remains convinced that he can save Noah.
Along with Crystal, Light, and Jupe, the cast includes Rosie Perez, Maria Dizzia, and Ava Lalezarzadeh. The series hails from Paramount Television Studios and was created by Sarah Thorp. Thorp serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer alongside Crystal, Academy Award winner Eric Roth, pilot director Adam Bernstein, and producing director Jet Wilkinson.
Before is the latest in a run of Apple TV+ limited thrillers featuring big stars, with others including Rashida Jones’s Sunny, Tom Holland’s The Crowded Room, and Natalie Portman’s Lady in the Lake.
