The Suicide Squad’s Daniela Melchior has joined the cast of the new Anaconda movie.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Jack Black and Paul Rudd were being eyed to star in a new Anaconda movie from Sony Pictures.
Now, Deadline has seemingly confirmed Black and Rudd’s casting. Melchior has also joined the cast of the movie, which is being written by Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten.
Melchior played Cleo Cazo/Ratcatcher 2 in 2021’s The Suicide Squad, which was directed by James Gunn. She also voiced the Portuguese dub for Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and has additionally starred in movies such as 2022’s Marlowe, 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, 2023’s Assassin Club, 2023’s Fast X, and 2024’s Road House.
She’ll soon be seen in Balls Up, a new comedy movie being directed by Peter Farrelly that also stars Mark Wahlberg, Paul Walter Hauser, Molly Shannon, Eva De Dominic, Benjamin Bratt, and Eric André. Balls Up does not yet have a release date.
What else do we know about the new Anaconda movie?
The new Anaconda movie is being directed by Gormican, while Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing the Fully Formed banner.
According to Deadline, the movie won’t be a remake of the 1997 film that starred Jon Voight, Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and Owen Wilson. Rather, it will be “a new take with the same snake front and center, with a story that leans more toward comedy.”
The 1997 Anaconda, which was directed by Luis Llosa, was followed by one theatrically-released sequel, 2004’s Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, and several television sequels, including 2008’s Anaconda 3: Offspring and 2009’s Anacondas: Trail of Blood. There was also a 2015 Lake Placid vs. Anaconda crossover movie and a 2024 Chinese remake.
A release date for the new Anaconda movie has not yet been announced.
