Users can choose to play either as a solo player or compete in a squad in the Google Doodle Popcorn game. When they click on the play button, they are directed to a short tutorial instructing them on the steps. After selecting the mode they want to play, users pose as a corn kernel in the game. They a chance to select any character they want to play from three options.
The players have different buffs, with one providing users a chance to heal, the other one lending a shield, and the last one providing the users to catch and throw. Players can use these abilities to avoid the little balls launched by the enemies, which convert the kernel to popcorn. Thus, employing the buff of the character a user chooses can help them advance in the game. The users also have to use the space bar to use this ability and arrow keys to move around.
Google Doodle lead engineer, Brian Murray recently spoke about the game with Today. He said, ”I’ll never forget the week we kicked off the project, brainstorming ideas and asking ourselves questions like, ‘What would a popcorn kernel’s biggest fear be? and ‘Should the attacking kernel have muscles?’ We had a fantastic time creating it, and we hope people have just as much fun playing it!”
Additionally, the official description of the Google Doodle popcorn game says, ”You butter believe that today’s interactive Doodle is celebrating your go-to movie companion and classic late-night snack: popcorn! This game is making Doodles history by allowing the highest number of players to compete in a match at the same time ever!” As per Google, they crafted the game to celebrate the day when the biggest popcorn machine ever created made a world record.
