Sonic Central 2024 brought a slew of new announcements for the chili dog-loving hedgehog. The presentation shared projects that will keep Sonic the Hedgehog fans busy until 2026.
What were the Sonic Central 2024 announcements?
Sonic Rumble is the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog party game for mobile and PC. Arriving this winter, up to 32 players can face each other in a variety of different challenges. Collecting rings and winning matches allows players to unlock different cosmetics for each character.
Existing Sonic the Hedgehog mobile games are receiving updates in the coming months. New characters are coming to Sonic Dash, Sonic Dash+, and Sonic Force. This includes Valhalla Surge, Oni Mephiles, Warrior Shadow, and Dulce Amy. Valhalla Surge can be unlocked right now. Sonic Racing also gets new character styles with Rockstar Rouge, DJ Vector, and Popstar Amy.
Chaos got a bit of a spotlight with the upcoming animated web series Chao Tales. Spanning eight episodes, these “whimsical shorts” featuring the fan-favorite creatures will be streamed on Sonic the Hedgehog social media channels.
The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise will also be featured in several non-Sonic games. The blue blur comes to Roblox in the form of Sonic Speed Simulator, which is available now. Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble added a new Shadow the Hedgehog costume available now as part of the SEGA Costume Pack. Free downloads for Sonic and Shadow themed monkey balls are also available on the Nintendo eShop. Lastly, the upcoming game Two Point Museum is adding several Sonic themed items as a preorder incentive. This includes outfits, interactive displays, and decorations.
SEGA also revealed several partnerships that brings themed products and experiences to Sonic fans of all ages. Collaborations include LEGO, Topgolf, Jakks Pacific, PDP, First 4 Figures, HJC Helmets, Louis de Guzman, and Bushiroad Creative.
The partnership that received the biggest spotlight was the upcoming DC Comics crossover. The DC x Sonic collaboration’s initial run launches March 2025, and spans five issues. Written by Ian Flynn, the series will see Sonic the Hedgehog characters as fan-favorite DC super heroes. This includes Shadow as Batman, Sonic as The Flash, Amy as Wonder Woman, Silver as Green Lantern, and Tails as Cyborg. Merchandise such as clothing and toys are planned, but were not shown. The presentation also confirms the collaboration will last through 2026.
A brand new Sonic X Shadow Generations trailer was revealed showcasing new story details for the upcoming game. Alongside gameplay, it seems Shadow the Hedgehog’s best friend Maria is making a comeback. Additionally, it was announced all physical preorders for the upcoming game will include a 24 page Gerald Robotnik journal.
Lastly, Sonic Central 2024 closed with a hype spot for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film. Producer Toby Ascher and director Jeff Fowler shared their excitement for the film, and thanked fans for their support in a video.
