Filmmaker Bernardo Britto got to work with Ayo Edebiri for his latest film Omni Loop, and recently said he’d be disappointed if the talented actress never wrote or directed any movies.
Speaking to ComingSoon in a recent interview, Britto heaped praise on Edebiri, calling her a great person to talk to and just a great human overall. He also praised her writing talents, saying that she and Mary-Louise Parker (who also stars in Omni Loop alongside Edebiri) are both fantastic writers.
Britto took it a step further to say he’d be disappointed if Edebiri never got to write and direct something of her own.
What did Britto say about Edebiri?
“Again, similarly to Mary-Louise, Ayo is a fantastic writer, and has written a bunch of TV stuff before,” said Britto. “I wouldn’t be surprised — I’d actually be disappointed — if she doesn’t make her own movie in the future. If she doesn’t write and direct something in the future. Because she is insanely talented and loves movies almost as much as I do.”
While Edebiri has yet to write or direct a feature film, the actress already has experience doing both in the world of television. Prior to her rise to superstardom as an actor, Edebiri was a writer for several high-profile projects, including What We Do in the Shadows, The Eric Andre Show, and Mulligan.
Edebiri also stepped behind the camera for an episode of Season 3 of The Bear, a show she also stars in. On the series, Edebiri directed Season 3’s sixth episode, “Napkins,” which focused mainly on the character Tina and her backstory.
