Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch were a highly anticipated dream match that never happened in WWE. Although both stars were at their peak, WWE never booked them for a singles match. After taking a hiatus following her first run in WWE, Rousey returned at Royal Rumble 2022.
Following her victory in the Women’s Royal Rumble, many fans expected Rousey to challenge Becky Lynch. Instead, she chose to face Charlotte Flair for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Title at WrestleMania 38. Meanwhile, Becky Lynch lost her RAW Women’s Championship to Bianca Belair at the same event.
Even a year later, with Rousey on SmackDown and Lynch on RAW, their match never materialized. Fans hoped to see them clash at WrestleMania 39, but it didn’t happen. Lynch competed in a trios tag team match, while Rousey appeared in a fatal four-way tag team match with Shayna Baszler.
Rousey left WWE a few months after WrestleMania 39, where she faced Shayna Baszler in her final WWE match at SummerSlam. Following her departure, Rousey made a few independent wrestling appearances. Recently, on Chris Van Vliet’s podcast, Rousey revealed that former WWE CEO Vince McMahon was responsible for not booking her match against Becky Lynch.
Ronda Rousey blames Vince McMahon for not booking Becky Lynch match
Former WWE RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey appeared on Chris Van Vliet’s podcast, where she discussed her book and her admiration for Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. When asked why her match against Becky Lynch at WrestleMania didn’t happen, Rousey responded, “I don’t know, Vince (McMahon) is an 80-year-old asshole.”
Although Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch faced each other in a Triple Threat match with Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 35, they never had a singles match a dream match fans eagerly anticipated for years.
With Rousey currently pregnant with her second child, a return to professional wrestling seems unlikely and Becky Lynch is on hiatus from WWE. As it stands, this dream match remains a significant opportunity that never materialized.
